We are all lucky to be born as Khmer, but it is too bad to have a leader who have no responsibility, knowledge, initiative and creativity, morality and decency, gene of violence, etc. Cambodia and her people are unfortunate to be led by a dictator. Cambodia and her people have been victimized by a dictator and the dictatorial government. Under the leadership of Mr. Hun Sen, Cambodia resources forest, minerals, etc. has been destroyed. More importantly, Cambodia’s reputation has been blurred at the regional and international level.
Cambodia and her people have been taken hostage by Prime Minister Hun Sen for decades. All institutions judiciary and armed forces are under control of the CPP and Hun Sen. In Cambodia, institution is weak, but individual is super strong or powerful. The whole power is at the hand of one individual (Prime Minister Hun Sen). Under the leadership of Hun Sen, rights and freedoms of citizens are suppressed and ordinary citizens and innocent have been/are maltreated. In addition, Cambodian citizens are painted with different colors. Also, Cambodians have been suffered by injustice system under the leadership of Hun Sen and his entourages.
Recently, Cambodians citizens were beaten and shot to injury and death and many other people have been detained unjustly because of joining in the civic peaceful demonstrations demanding a minimum wage rise and justice and resolution to the election-related dispute or post-election political crisis. Since then, public rally or demonstration is banned by the government. People, worker’s unions, civil society organizations, and political party are not allowed to use the Freedom Park to express ideas. The Freedom Park is full of armed forces/security forces to crackdown on anyone or any group of people who want to rally to protest the Hun Sen-led government or to express opinions. The government security forces committed violence on protesters and journalists (local and international journalists). This is a cruel action committed by the government security forces under the leadership of Hun Sen. Without any absolute instruction by the government leaders, these security forces would not have committed violence on civilians and journalists.
This illegitimate action committed by the government security forces are vehemently condemned by Cambodians and international community, etc.
It is too ironical to see that armed force/security force and military equipment are deployed at the Freedom Park, in order to frighten people to participate in any demonstration or public rally organized by the CNRP or any other associations. It showed that the government is prepared to make war with its Cambodians. If anyone who does not know about the story and the purpose of the deployment of armed forces, h/she will think that the government mobilized force to fight against the enemy who encroached the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country. But, in deed armed forces are mobilized and prepared to intimidate civil demonstrators or to stage war with civilians. Is this government a “Junta government or dictatorial government?” Who do they want to kill? Anarchist? The Hun Sen-led government had used the word anarchist” in 1996 and 1997, aiming at destroying Prince Norodom Ranariddh and his armed force, in order to defeat Funcinpec and the prince toward strengthening the powerbase.
Now Hun Sen and his entourages started to use this word again. With this ironical pretext, Hun Sen is using armed forces to defeat and destroy his main opponent CNRP and civilians (who fight for justice and freedom) to the ground. But, the Hun Sen-led government seemed to forget that this illegitimate strategy had been strongly condemned by Cambodians and international community. Hun Sen and his entourages are too coward. They are not democrats, but dictators.
It is too clear that Hun Sen is transforming the country to communist. Hun Sen and his entourages are suppressing rights and freedoms of citizens. Hun Sen is violating the main law of Cambodia.
No more Democracy Square under the dictatorship of Mr. Hun Sen. Hun Sen and his entourages really hate the word “Democracy.” The Hun Sen–led government fully violated the constitution of Cambodia. This government suppresses rights and freedoms of citizens to assembly and expression. Further, this government violated the principle of democracy. It is clear that the government attempted to suppress on political party and citizens to hold a public rally to express ideas. Hun Sen is a second former president of Indonesia Suharto. Suharto is a dictator. Under his reign, he constructed a strong, centralized and military-dominated government. And Hun Sen is the second Ben Ali, the former president of Tunisia. In late December 2010, protests against poverty, unemployment, and political repression erupted in Tunisia, with many of the demonstrators demanding that Ben Ali resign. Many protesters were killed in clashes with security forces, provoking outcry from human rights groups.
Hun Sen is being afraid of his shade and wave of democracy. Hun Sen is trying his best to maintain or to centralize his power, in order to protect his relatives and group’s interests. Hun Sen is intimidating and doing something to crackdown on any group of civil demonstrators protesting his government actions and his dictatorship. Obviously, Hun Sen used armed force/security force as a TOOL to oppress and crackdown on opposition and civil protesters in early January 2014 causing injuries and deaths and fears among Cambodian citizens. The Hun Sen-led government flagrantly violated the constitution by oppressing citizens and opposition party to organize a public rally or demonstration to express disagreeing ideas and demand justice, deep election reform, NEC reform, and reelection.
Is Hun Sen a democrat or dictator? Is Cambodia ruled by the law or by a group of dictators?
Will this country be divided into two parts? Why do we all have to allow the country to split into pieces? What are influential factors staying behind this split? It looks that Cambodian politicians are thinking that “anyone who are not their supporters are enemies. Anyone who have different political points of views and dare come out to criticize or show no support to them are their enemies. Will Cambodia slide into the deep social crisis and lead to the social polarization? Why Cambodian citizens become a hostage of the group of notorious politicians and leaders? Can you please let Cambodians free from your influence, suppression/oppression and political dispute and your borderless political ambition? Can you open your two eyes and mind to see millions of tons of tears of Cambodians because of land-grabbing, forced land eviction, corruption and biased law enforcement, abuse of power, unemployment, low price of local products and market inflation, depletion of the national resource, etc. ? These are urgent things need to be settled for the country and her people, not to fight to strengthen your power.
This is a coward measure committed by the Hun Sen-led government on the civil demonstration or civil public rally. What the hell the security force doing at the Freedom Park? Who are these security forces? Are they the special men hired by Hun Sen to use violence on the civil demonstrators who conduct a rally or demonstration protesting the government actions or demand justice? Please remember that demonstration is a way to express agreeing or disagreeing ideas.
In democracy, people have right and freedom to assemble, in order to express ideas. Article 51 of the constitution says that Cambodian citizens shall master of the destiny of their own country and all powers belong to the people. And article 35 stipulates that Cambodian citizens of either sex shall have the right to participate actively in the political, economic, social, and cultural life of the nation. Further, this is mentioned in the international covenant on civil and political rights. Fundamentally, citizens shall have right and freedom to engage in politics, to assembly, to association, and access to information, etc.
Also, people have the right to criticize the government performance and leadership. People have the right to agree or disagree with the position and policy of the government. People have the right to protest government actions. Can you please think that do Cambodian citizens have rights and freedoms as stipulated in the constitution? Of course, Cambodia is different from the communist and dictatorial country or the junta government such as China, Vietnam, former Myanmar/Burma, etc. because these countries/governments do not like DEMOCRACY. They never want to provide right and freedom for their citizens. They will take action to stifle and oppress people or the opposition who want to apply their rights and freedoms to protest government actions and leadership. What they want their citizens to do is to SUPPORT the government performance and leadership only.
Repeatedly, in democracy, the public rally and demonstration to demand fairness, equality, and justice do not mean unlawful because the constitution guarantee the rights and freedoms of citizens to express ideas. Even though, people’s ideas do not support the government or anyone. The Hun Sen-led government ought to respect the rights and freedoms of citizens to assembly to express point of views or to protest government actions and leadership. These rights and freedoms must not be violated by anyone (politician or leader). If the people are not given the right to assembly and to protest government actions, it means the violation of the constitution and international covenant on civil and political rights.
No one consider the opposing thoughts or the public demonstration to express of ideas to support or not support or to against the election result as an enemy and use the hard approach to solve the problem. Before using armed forces or security forces that are fully equipped with weapons and other military tools to crackdown violently on the civil protesters and demonstrations, the government ought to critically think about the damage of the human life as well as jeopardizing the young democratic principle and the rule of law in the country. The government cannot deem the protesters or demonstrators as an “anarchists”, in order to have an excuse to violently disperse and crackdown. Please notice that such a violent crackdown has been vehemently condemned by international community, etc.
Only the Junta government and the dictatorial or communist country that use armed forces to stifle and crackdown the civil protesters or demonstrations demanding for fairness and justice. For instance, China used armed forces, tanks or armored vehicles to violently crackdown on the demonstration in 1989 causing fatalities, the former Indonesia president Suharto and former dictator in the Philippines Ferdinand Marcos, the former Junta government leader Gen. Than Shwe of Myanmar, other dictators in the Middle East and Africa suppressed the rights and freedoms of citizens and the opposition to protest government actions. What about Cambodia? IS this government dictatorial? Is Mr. Hun Sen a dictator or militarist?
In Cambodia, armed force is a key TOOL of the government to use to intimidate, crackdown on protesters or demonstrators. Obviously, the striking factory workers and the CRNP-organized demonstrations were violently dispersed violently causing injuries and deaths. Hun Sen used armed force to maintain and strengthen his power illegitimately.
Do you think that is it legitimate to use armed force/security force to suppress the rights and freedoms of citizens, politicians, and etc. to assembly or to freedom of expression? Do you think that it is legitimate to use security force to intimidate or shoot at the peaceful civil demonstrators? Do you want to see Cambodia split into two pieces? Do you love to use violence to deal with the political impasses? Do you want to see millions of tears of Cambodian citizens drop out everyday? Do you want to see demonstration or rally organized everyday to demand justice? If you do, where is the social stability? Where is peace? Where is happiness of the country and people? Where is the societal harmonization? PLEASE WAKE UP, CAMBODIAN POLITICIANS AND LEADERS!!! PLEASE WAKE UP MR. HUN SEN? PLEASE RETURN RIGHST AND FREEDOMS TO KHMER PEOPLE! PLEASE STOP USE VIOLENCE TO SETTLE THE PROBLEM! PLEASE GIVE UP THE NATURE OF VIOENCE ! PLEASE PUT THE NATIONAL INTEREST BEFORE YOUR PARTY’S INTEREST! PLEASE STOP MALTREATS CAMBODIANS! PLEASE STOP STIFLE CAMBODIANS’RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS!
IT IS THA NOTICED T CAMBODIAN POLITICIANS AND LEADERS ESPECIALLY HUN SEN HAVE NO POLITICAL PATENCE AND TOLERANCE TO DEAL WITH ANY PROBLEM, RATHER THAN USING ARMED FORCES OR VIOLENCE TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. IT IS NOT AN EFFECTIVE MEDICINE TO HEAL THE WOUND. BUT, IT WILL HURT THE WOUND THE MOST. FIINALLY, CAMBODIA HAS NO HAPPINESS AND HARMONIZATION.
In order to end this current political stalemate, CPP and CNRP need to return to the negotiating table to discuss the unsettled things honestly to find a solution. What is important the most is that Hun Sen needs to be smart to reform current NEC and set a clear date of reelection in 2015 or 2016. Hun Sen should know that he cannot be recalcitrant with the citizens’ demand for change. Also, Hun Sen must respect the constitution to return rights and freedoms to citizens to assembly, to protest or express disagreeing ideas. Hun Sen gets to return Democracy Square to citizens. It is of no use for Hun Sen and his entourages to use armed forces to control this place or to frighten and intimidate citizens. But, Hun Sen should use these armed forces and equipment for the protection of territorial integrity. Hun Sen cannot make war with civilians.
